Met go top after victory over Swansea

Llandudno off the mark with win in other fixture

Cardiff Met went top of the Orchard Welsh Premier Women's League with a 2-0 victory over Swansea City at Cyncoed Campus.

The champions got off to the perfect start, going a goal up in the second minute. Good interplay between Liv Thompson and Naomi Clipston freed up the latter to play in Madison Schupbach. Swans keeper Kate Brisland was first to the ball, however her clearance fell straight to Schupbach, who turned the ball into the empty net.

Jodie Passmore had a chance to respond on 8' but fired a free-kick wide. Both sides struggled to create many chances in a tight half after that, until Met doubled the lead just after the half hour. Lauren Hancock brought Thompson down on the edge of the area, and Clipston fired the resulting free-kick into the top corner.

Swans pressed after the break, Emma Beynon forcing Estelle Randall into a good save four minutes in before the Met stopper had to deny Passmore minutes later. Up the other end, Brisland was called on to deny Robyn Pinder twice in quick succession, while Clipston could have put the game out of sight on the hour, beating Brisland but smashing the post.

Passmore and Pinder both had further chances, neither finding the net, and Met held on to go three points clear of Port Talbot, who have a game in hand.

At the other end of the table, and the country, Llandudno got their first points of the season with a 2-1 win at home to Briton Ferry Llansawel.

Two goals from Jordanne Greenough either side of half time were enough, Megan Kearle's goal nineteen minutes from time proving only to be a consolation for the Reds.
